Full course description
Welcome to Country
Womin djeka means welcome but like many Aboriginal words it is also conceptual. A more authentic translation is 'welcome, come – what is your purpose or intent?’ This is a question that we ask you to reflect on through this credential and your journey at RMIT.
To begin our Indigenous orientation, we will introduce the concepts of Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country. These are essential and core Indigenous practices that are performed throughout Australia.
The First Peoples of Australia are among the oldest living continuous cultures on earth. The relationship that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have with the land, water and each other, is connection on a level from which non-Indigenous people have much to learn. RMIT University recognises the significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ knowledge systems, practices, and culture, and has committed to Reconciliation to ensure we have a shared future together.
