Full course description
Welcome to Truth-Telling: Racism and Reconciliation
Module learning outcome: Understand why all of us need to go on a journey of reconciliation and develop deeper insight into our own reconciliation journey
RMIT is delighted that you are embarking on this critical journey, not just for you and your community, but for the world at large. We are at an inflection point where we can try and build back a better post-pandemic world in the face of climate change, geo-political conflict and the systemic discrimination and racism that permeates through our societies. This is a moment of great potential for change. We have an opportunity to address the legacies of colonial pasts and build a new future.
From the hundreds of thousands of Black Lives Matter protesters across the world in 2020 standing up and demanding justice and equality, through to a renewed emphasis in Victoria and Australia on telling the truth about the colonial past and working to have Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices represented in government and policy making, people of all races and backgrounds are recognising the need for reconciliation. There is renewed impetus to have the most difficult conversations, to push for social justice, and to create an equitable and fair society for all.
